ELECTRIC VEHICLES

EV Charging Cost Calculator

Estimate how much electricity an EV charge may draw from the grid. Charge loss and the battery’s usable energy capacity can differ by vehicle and ambient conditions. This is not a live utility tariff lookup.

How this calculation works

Added battery energy = usable capacity × (target SOC − current SOC) ÷ 100. Grid energy = added energy ÷ charging efficiency. Cost = grid energy × electricity price per kWh.

Worked example

A 60 kWh usable battery charged from 20% to 80% at 90% efficiency needs about 40 kWh from the grid. At 0.20 per kWh, estimated cost is 8.00.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include charger idle fees?

No. Add time-based, idle or session fees from your charging provider separately.

Is rated battery capacity always usable?

No. Confirm the manufacturer’s stated usable capacity if possible.
